What Zoho Mail does well

  • Among the cheapest business email hosting anywhere: $1 a user a month for Mail Lite and $2 for Workplace Standard, with IMAP and SMTP on every paid plan.
  • A real company with real terms: a 30-day refund on monthly plans and 45 days on yearly ones, cancel or downgrade any time, and a 15-day trial without a card.
  • The admin console is a proper one, with two-factor, device management, retention and eDiscovery on the higher plans, and users can be added and removed as you like.
  • Secondary domains cost almost nothing to host, so a cheap Zoho domain is a reasonable place to park reply handling, forwarding or a low-volume inbox.
  • Published rate limits and a frank help page on how the dynamic throttling works, which is more than most hosts give you.

Where it falls short

  • Zoho says Zoho Mail is designed for one-to-one business communication and does not recommend bulk, marketing or promotional email, and the limits are built to enforce that.
  • External sending is throttled on a rolling hourly basis at a dynamic 50 to 500 emails an hour depending on sender reputation, engagement and contact quality, which is not the per-inbox daily cap a sequencer expects.
  • A cold campaign that draws complaints will have its limits cut or the account blocked, with the shared infrastructure's reputation at stake rather than your own.
  • Mail Lite and Mail Premium are yearly only, the free plan has no IMAP or POP and only exists in some regions, and taxes are added on top.
  • It is not a Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 account, so the mailbox-provider trust that cold email sequencers lean on is absent.

What Zoho Mail is

Zoho Mail is Zoho Corporation’s business email hosting, sold on its own or inside the Zoho Workplace suite with WorkDrive, Writer, Sheet and Cliq. It is ad-free custom-domain email with an admin console, mobile and desktop apps, an AI assistant and, on the higher plans, retention, eDiscovery and device management. People ask about it for cold email because it is cheap, about a dollar a user, and because every paid plan exposes IMAP and SMTP, which means a sequencer can connect to it. This profile is about whether that is a good idea.

Zoho Mail pricing

Prices are per user per month in US dollars, and most of the mail-only plans are yearly only. Mail Lite is $1 a user a month billed yearly for 5 GB of mail, with a 10 GB variant, and has no monthly option. Mail Premium is $4 billed yearly for 50 GB plus 50 GB of retention storage, eDiscovery, S/MIME and mobile device management, again yearly only. The Workplace bundles are the ones with monthly billing: Workplace Standard at $2 a user a month billed yearly or $3 monthly, with 30 GB of mail and 100 GB of team file storage plus the office suite, and Workplace Professional at $4.50 yearly or $5.50 monthly, with 100 GB of mail plus retention and 1 TB of team storage. Workplace Enterprise is quoted. A Forever Free plan hosts one domain for up to 5 users with 5 GB each, but without IMAP, POP or ActiveSync and only in some data centres. Local taxes are added, the highest edition can be tried free for 15 days without a card, and mail-only and Workplace plans can be mixed in one organisation.

The commercial terms are generous by this directory’s standards. Plans renew automatically, you can cancel or downgrade at any time, and Zoho’s refund policy promises a full refund if you are dissatisfied within the first 30 days of a monthly plan or 45 days of a yearly one, plus a refund of the unused term if Zoho removes functionality you rely on. Cancelling moves the account to the free plan where one exists and locks it where none does.

Sending limits and integrations

Setup is self-serve: verify the domain, add Zoho’s MX, SPF and DKIM records at your DNS host, create users, and connect clients over IMAP and SMTP on any paid plan. The limits are the part that matters for outreach. Zoho’s admin help page lists a dynamic cap of 50 to 500 external emails an hour per account, set by sender reputation, recipient engagement and contact quality, with 1,000 an hour for internal mail and 150 recipients per message on paid accounts. The limit rolls hourly rather than resetting each day, adjusts to how each account behaves, and the page is explicit that Zoho Mail is designed for one-to-one business communication, recommending Zoho Campaigns for marketing, promotional and bulk mail. Integrations are the Zoho suite, Zoho CRM, the apps, and whatever you connect over IMAP and SMTP.

What that means for cold email

A sequencer wants a known daily cap per inbox, a warmup it can control and a mailbox provider whose reputation lends the message weight. Zoho offers none of those for cold email: the cap is hourly, dynamic and reputation-scored, warmup is not a concept, the infrastructure is shared and the service’s owner says in writing that bulk sending is not what it is for. A single founder sending a few dozen personal emails a day from a Zoho inbox is within the lines. Running campaigns across a fleet of Zoho inboxes invites throttling, complaint-driven limit cuts and account blocks, with no provider trust to fall back on. Where Zoho earns its place in a cold email stack is beside it: as cheap, reliable hosting for the main domain, for reply handling and forwarding, or for a secondary domain that needs a legitimate mailbox without the cost of a Workspace seat.

Who Zoho Mail is for, and who should look elsewhere

Zoho Mail suits founders who want cheap, legitimate business email for their main domain, reply handling or very light outreach. It is a poor fit for cold email at any real volume, or for anyone who wants per-inbox daily limits they can plan around. For dedicated cold email inboxes, InboxKit, Mailin and ColdInfra sell Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 accounts set up for outreach. The inbox provider comparison scores all of them.

Where PureMail wins, and where Zoho Mail wins

PureMail’s Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 inboxes, configured and connected by a team cost $3.30 each for 10, $3.10 for 30 to 100 and $2.90 for 101 or more, billed monthly. They are not cheaper than a $1 Zoho seat, and the comparison is not really about price: PureMail sells accounts on the two platforms whose reputation cold email sequencers are built around, on secondary domains, configured and connected with daily limits you set, which is exactly the use Zoho says its mail hosting is not designed for. Full details are on the pricing page.

Zoho Mail wins everywhere else: a dollar a seat for proper business email, a 30-day or 45-day refund, an admin console with real security controls, and an office suite for a few dollars more. Host the main domain there, send cold from dedicated inboxes, and the two never need to meet. The table below puts the two side by side.

Zoho Mail FAQ

How much does Zoho Mail cost?

As of 6 October 2026, Mail Lite is $1 a user a month billed yearly for 5 GB, with a 10 GB variant, and Mail Premium is $4 a user a month billed yearly for 50 GB plus 50 GB of retention; neither has a monthly plan. Workplace Standard, which adds the office suite, is $2 a user a month billed yearly or $3 monthly, and Workplace Professional is $4.50 yearly or $5.50 monthly. Enterprise is quoted, a Forever Free plan covers up to 5 users without IMAP or POP in supported regions, and local taxes are added.

Can I use Zoho Mail for cold email?

Zoho's own help centre says Zoho Mail is designed for one-to-one business communication and does not recommend sending bulk, marketing, promotional or newsletter email from it, pointing those senders to Zoho Campaigns. The sending limits enforce that: external mail is capped at a dynamic 50 to 500 emails an hour on a rolling basis, set by sender reputation, engagement and contact quality, and accounts that generate complaints see their limits cut. A few dozen personal emails a day from one inbox is fine; a sequencer running campaigns across many Zoho inboxes is not what the service is built for.

What are Zoho Mail's sending limits?

The admin help page lists a dynamic limit of 50 to 500 external emails an hour per account based on reputation, 1,000 an hour for internal mail, and a maximum of 150 recipients per message on paid accounts or 100 on free ones. The limits roll over hourly rather than resetting daily, adjust to each account's behaviour, and Zoho says good sending practices preserve the higher end of the range.

Does Zoho Mail support IMAP and SMTP?

On paid plans, yes, which is how you would connect a Zoho mailbox to a sequencer or a desktop client. The Forever Free plan explicitly excludes IMAP, POP and ActiveSync, so it works only in Zoho's web and mobile apps.

Can I cancel Zoho Mail, and is there a refund?

Plans renew automatically and you can cancel or downgrade at any time from the subscription page, after which the account moves to the free plan where one is available, or is locked in regions without one. Zoho's refund policy offers a full refund if you are dissatisfied within the first 30 days of a monthly subscription or 45 days of a yearly one, and says it will refund the unused part of a contract if it removes or breaks functionality you depend on.
