What Porkbun does well

  • Cheap, flat .com pricing: $11.08 to register and $11.08 to renew, with ICANN fees included and no first-year bait.
  • Everything a cold email domain needs is free: WHOIS privacy, SSL, email forwarding, URL forwarding to your main site, and DNS on Cloudflare's network.
  • A documented REST API and bulk search, so an agency can register, renew, set DNS and forward dozens of domains without clicking through a cart.
  • A 96-hour grace period in which eligible registrations and renewals can be deleted and refunded from your own account.
  • An ICANN-accredited registrar with support by email, chat and phone 365 days a year, and prices for registration, renewal and transfer shown together.

Where it falls short

  • The cheap first-year extensions renew dearly: .xyz goes from $2.04 to $14.21, .info and .pro from about $3 to $22.14, and .co from $15.76 to $31.20.
  • Auto-renew is on by default and the agreement puts expiry tracking on you; turning it off means cancelling the service for hosted products.
  • Refunds exist only inside the 96-hour grace period, some extensions are excluded, and Porkbun says it cannot guarantee any refund.
  • It is a registrar, not an inbox provider: no mailboxes for cold email, no warm-up, and the $36-a-year Porkbun Email is a single business inbox.
  • The newest video on its channel is a 2026 email-hosting fix; the useful explainers date from 2021.

What Porkbun is

Porkbun is an ICANN-accredited domain registrar run by Porkbun LLC from the Portland, Oregon area, with a reputation for low prices, free extras and a sense of humour about pigs. For cold email it matters because every campaign needs secondary domains, bought cheaply, kept private, forwarded somewhere sensible and managed in bulk, and Porkbun does all four. It also sells email hosting, SSL, and static and WordPress hosting, offers a documented REST API, and publishes registration, renewal and transfer prices side by side for every extension, which is rarer than it should be.

Porkbun pricing

Prices are per domain per year in US dollars with ICANN fees included. A .com costs $11.08 to register, $11.08 to renew and $11.08 to transfer, with no first-year discount to unwind later. A .net is $12.52 and a .org $7.98 for the first year then $11.84. Many other extensions carry first-year sales with much higher renewals: .co $15.76 then $31.20, .io $28.12 then $51.80, .info $3.60 then $22.14, .pro $3.09 then $22.14, .biz $6.69 then $19.05 and .xyz $2.04 then $14.21. Every domain includes WHOIS privacy, an SSL certificate, email forwarding for 20 addresses, URL forwarding and DNS. Porkbun Email, a hosted business inbox with 10 GB and IMAP, costs $36 a year and is free for 15 days with a new domain.

Domains register for one year and renew automatically unless you switch auto-renew off, and the registration agreement puts the job of tracking expiry on you. Refunds follow the registries’ grace periods: Porkbun gives 96 hours after a registration or renewal in which eligible domains can be deleted and refunded from inside the account, after which it cannot recover its costs and offers nothing, and it notes that some extensions are excluded and that no refund is guaranteed.

Setup, DNS and the API

Buying is the usual cart, with bulk search for lists of names. DNS is free and runs on Cloudflare’s network with DNSSEC, and you can point the domain at your own nameservers instead if your inbox provider wants control. SPF, DKIM and DMARC are yours to add, or your provider’s to add through the API, which covers registration, renewal, transfer, DNS, SSL, forwarding and the aftermarket in a clean JSON format. URL forwarding sends visitors from an outreach domain to your main site, and email forwarding routes replies to a real inbox when you are not hosting mailboxes on the domain. Support runs by email, chat and phone 365 days a year.

Cold email considerations

Two rules fall out of the price list. First, buy .com, with .net as the fallback: they are priced flat, they are what every mailbox provider expects to see, and the cheap first-year extensions are both distrusted by filters and expensive to renew. Second, turn WHOIS privacy on, forward the domain to your main site and keep it for at least a year, because a domain that changes hands or expires mid-campaign takes its reputation with it. Porkbun does not sell cold email inboxes, warm-up or placement tests; it sells the ground they stand on.

Who Porkbun is for, and who should look elsewhere

Porkbun suits anyone buying secondary domains for cold email who wants flat .com pricing, free privacy and forwarding, and an API to manage a fleet. It is a poor fit for buying bargain extensions for outreach, or for anyone expecting the registrar to supply inboxes or deliverability. Cloudflare sells .com at cost for $10.46 with free DNS, but gives no refunds and requires its own nameservers. The email platforms and registrars category lists the other hosting-side tools in this directory. Spaceship undercuts both on .com, at $8.88 the first year and $9.98 to renew, with a five-day discretionary refund window.

Using Porkbun with PureMail

PureMail asks you to bring your own domains and names Porkbun among the registrars it works with. Register the outreach domains at Porkbun with WHOIS privacy on, set URL forwarding to your main site, and hand the domains to PureMail, whose team configures SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX for the Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 inboxes it supplies. Keep auto-renew on for domains you intend to keep sending from, and switch it off before a domain you are retiring comes up for renewal.

Porkbun FAQ

How much does a domain cost at Porkbun?

As of 6 October 2026, a .com costs $11.08 a year to register, renew or transfer, with ICANN fees included. A .net is $12.52 and a .org $7.98 for the first year then $11.84. Extensions on first-year sale renew at higher prices: .co $15.76 then $31.20, .io $28.12 then $51.80, .info $3.60 then $22.14, .pro $3.09 then $22.14, .biz $6.69 then $19.05 and .xyz $2.04 then $14.21. WHOIS privacy, SSL, email forwarding, URL forwarding and DNS are included free.

Which domain extension should I buy for cold email?

.com, with .net as the fallback, because mailbox providers and recipients treat them as ordinary business domains and Porkbun prices them flat at $11.08 and $12.52 to register and renew. The cheap first-year extensions such as .xyz, .info and .pro are the ones spam filters have learned to distrust, and they renew at $14 to $22 anyway. Buy variations of your main brand on .com, keep them private and forward them to your main site.

Does Porkbun include WHOIS privacy and email forwarding?

Yes, both free on every domain, along with an SSL certificate, URL forwarding and DNS. Email forwarding covers 20 addresses per domain, which is enough to route replies from a cold email domain to a real inbox if you are not hosting mailboxes on it.

Can I get a refund on a Porkbun domain?

Only within a 96-hour grace period after registration or renewal, during which eligible domains can be deleted and refunded from inside your account. After that Porkbun cannot recover its own costs and offers no refund, some extensions are excluded, and Porkbun says it cannot guarantee refunds on any purchase. Auto-renewal is on by default, so check the setting on domains you intend to retire.

Can I use Porkbun domains with PureMail?

Yes. PureMail asks you to bring your own domains from any registrar and names Porkbun among them. Register the domains at Porkbun, keep WHOIS privacy on, and PureMail's team configures SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX on them for the Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 inboxes it provides. Set URL forwarding to your main site so the outreach domains resolve to something real.
